Royalty registration audits for independent musicians
Your songs are earning. Make sure you're getting paid.
Royalty Detective audits your registrations across BMI, ASCAP, SESAC, GMR, SOCAN, The MLC, SoundExchange and your distributor. We find unregistered songs, split conflicts and missing shares, then hand you ready-to-file fixes. You approve every filing. You keep your rights.

The problem
Royalties go missing in the paperwork, not the music.
A song gets released but never registered. Co-writers register different splits at different societies. A publisher share sits blank. The same song exists twice under two titles. Each one quietly leaks money, and no statement tells you it's happening.
SOURCED: The MLC, Market Share distributions
Unmatched money doesn't wait forever.
The MLC will begin distributing remaining unmatched 2021 blanket royalties by market share in April 2027. Royalties that aren't matched to their owners by then go to other rights holders, weighted by market share, which mostly favors large publishers.

Scan. Audit. Fix.
Free gap score in minutes
Tell us who you are, or upload your distributor and society exports. Our agents build a master catalog of your works, ISRCs and ISWCs.
Every registry, cross-checked
We compare your catalog against PRO repertoire, The MLC, SoundExchange and SOCAN. Reports are prepared with AI-assisted research against public registry data, and each finding links to its source evidence.
Ready-to-file, your approval
You get fix packets for each issue. Nothing is filed without your sign-off. We track each fix until the society confirms it.
Sample audit · anonymized
We found 4 issues. Here's the proof.
From a sample audit of a self-published artist with about 35 original songs. Most of the catalog was clean. These four weren't.
Unregistered song
A released single doesn't appear in either the BMI or ASCAP view of the writer's catalog. Until it's registered, performance royalties for it can't reach the writer.
Co-writer conflict between societies
BMI lists two writers on a song; ASCAP's record of the same song lists four, and its shares total 97.5%. Conflicting registrations can cause payments to be held or misrouted.
Missing publisher share
A co-writer's publisher share is blank on one society's record. Until the registration is completed, that slice of the song's publishing income may not reach anyone.
Duplicate works
One song is registered twice under slightly different titles. Plays can be split across both entries, or one may never match at all.

Trust
Run by AI agents. Confirmed by you.
Agents do the tedious cross-referencing across registries. Reports are prepared with AI-assisted research against public registry data. Every finding cites its source, so you can confirm it before filing. And you sign off before anything gets filed.
What we are not
- Not a publisher. We never own or co-own your songs.
- Not an administrator. Societies keep paying you directly.
- Not a law firm. Nothing here is legal advice.
- Not a payout promise. We show evidence, not guesses.
FAQ
Questions artists ask first
Are you a publisher or administrator?
No. We never take your rights, sign you to an admin deal, or receive or hold your money. Societies keep paying you directly. We find registration problems and prepare the fixes; you approve and file them (or authorize us to file on your behalf, one filing at a time). We don't draft split agreements or advise on disputes between co-writers; for those, talk to a music attorney.
What do you need from me?
For the free scan: an email and your writer/artist name, plus optional exports from your distributor or society. For a Deep Audit, statement exports or read-only/delegated access to your accounts. We prefer exports over passwords.
How long until money shows up?
Societies pay on lags, often one to several quarters after a fix is accepted. We tell you the expected timeline per finding, and we never promise a payout.
How does the 15% success fee work?
It applies only to back pay the societies pay you after a fix we found, within 12 months of your approving the fix. If no back pay arrives, you owe nothing. We never take a cut of your future royalties. Prefer no success fee at all? Choose the Flat Fix package (proposed pricing).
What about money held by a state unclaimed-property program?
That's outside our services, and we don't charge for it. If money is being held by a state program (for example, Florida's Department of Financial Services), you can claim it yourself for free through the state's official site, and we'll point you there.
Who actually does the work?
AI agents do the catalog matching and cross-checking across registries. Reports are prepared with AI-assisted research against public registry data. Please confirm the findings before filing; nothing gets filed without your approval.
What's the MLC April 2027 deadline?
The MLC has announced it will begin distributing remaining unmatched 2021 blanket royalties by market share starting April 2027. Money that isn't matched to its owner by then gets paid to other rights holders by market share. Getting your works registered and matched before then is how you make sure your share is paid to you.
